Why weren’t state taxes taken out of my paycheck?

Asked by: jmlcpl 474 views YA Discussion

I am a teenager and I work at the YMCA as a summer camp counselor. I got my first paycheck from all our training hours. We got paid $ 8.00 an hour for 13 hours. I got a total of $ 104. They took out a total of $ 8.01 on taxes. But it was federal taxes. They didn’t take out any state taxes. Do you have to make a certain amount for them to take out state taxes?

How others found here:

  • is there a hourly limit to where undont have to have state and federal taxes taken out of paycheck
  • do u have to make a certain amount for state taxes to be held out
  • taxes werent taken out of my paycheck what do i do?

yes, in most states there are minimums at which no income taxes are withheld and $ 104 is probably within that limit
as a teenager, unless you earn $ 5950 for 2012, you don’t need to be concerned about income tax

YES BUT you could also ask your company payroll department about this matte just to make sure that you and they do get this matter done CORRECTLY for your situation at this time in your life.
Hope that you find the above enclosed information useful. 06/14/2012
