Why is tax return taking so long to process?

Asked by: jbell 464 views YA Discussion

I filed my return 1/18/2013 and the wmr site still says processing. I filed HOH with 1 dependent, no complex claims or anything. Does anyone know what could be prolonging the process? I know lots of other people who received there refund within days of filing. It’s so irritating!!

How others found here:

  • why are 2013 tax returns taking so long
  • why does it take so long for irs to process tax returns

The IRS did not start acceptiing returns til last week, so even if you filed on 1/18 it still would not be accepted til about a week ago, and they say it takes up to 21 days from then

Same thing is happening to me and when I call they won’t give me any answers.. They say just wait. Does the WMR say tax topic 152?

I filed mine on the 31st and got accepted that day. Its still processing though. I also filed hoh with one dependent. I have a felling it has something to do with the fact that we filed HOH.

Eight days is not “so long” to process. You need to be patient. The IRS started processing on Jan 30, regardless of when you filed.

If you didn’t file as HoH with the same dependent last year your return may be slowed down by the fraud filters while it’s checked for any possible irregularities.
