why is my federal refund being reviewed?

Asked by: mflewis 737 views YA Discussion

SO today is the 21st day so i was supposed to get my refund today. I called irs and they said my return is under review and it could take 60 days. So my question is what would cause them to review mine and if anyone has any idea how long it could take to get my money.
i claimed my daughter and filed hoh so from what im understanding its just because of hoh filing, So will it take the whole 60 days to review it or what

How others found here:

All returns claiming HOH, EIC, education credits or child care credits are being reviewed.

Sometimes it’s just a random spotcheck – they can’t audit everyone’s return, so they randomly pick some for auditing. Sometimes it’s because you’ve made a declaration that doesn’t check out.

You tell us! What is making IRS review your return? Take a look at your return, what seems quetionable, EIC, Filing Status, Sch A (itemized deductions) Form 8863

Just be patient, you will get your refund once IRS is completed the reveiw on your return.

Don’t ever give IRS a reason to question your return again, simply visit IRS website now and download the W4 Withholding Allowance Certificate, view the withholding allowance instructions, fill out the W4 using the calculator and then submit the W4 to your employer to have less withheld so you won’t be due a refund next filing season, and your take home pay will also be much more.

    good luck

same here. yesterday i received a cp05 letter from the irs stating my return is under review and should be completed by april 25th. i also filed hoh and eic with my daughter as a dependen, same as last year. from what i’ve read, they are reviewing hoh and eic because of wide spread fraud last year. go to irs.gov/cp05 for additional info. i hope it doesn’t take the full 60 days, i could really use my refund, but we’ll just have to wait.
