Why does my w2 and my paystubs have $0.00 for federal withhold?

Asked by: vdlicata 370 views YA Discussion

My w2s say I have 0 dollars taken from my fed. Taxes… My paystubs say the same. What effect will this have when I file taxes?

Also, why didn’t they take out anything at all. I work a minimum wage job … McDonalds lol.. when I started I marked 0 because IM single and have no children. Do I need to change it to 1? Please explain tax professionals!

obviously no income tax was withheld
if you filed 0 your weekly gross was probably less than the minimum that income tax is withheld
if yu are single without dependents, $ 9750 of your income is not taxable(for 2013, that will be $ 10000)

    What was your total Income?

If you have no withholding, you may owe taxes. The time to ask about why you had no taxes taken out is way before you get a W2.

The ’0′, or ‘S-1′ for you would be correct. It looks like the info was input by your company incorrectly. If you are still working for them – have it checked out.

The time to be asking the question was when you got your first paycheck, not at tax time. If there is a problem it could have been corrected back then.

Claiming 0 results in the most tax being withheld, so changing from 0 to 1 won’t have any more withheld.

Most likely though is the fact that you didn’t earn enough to have any FIT withheld. If this was your only income and you can be claimed as a dependent and the amount in box 1 is less than $ 5,950 you won’t owe any tax and there’s no reason to file a return. If you can’t be claimed as a dependent that jumps to $ 9,750.

    B/c nothing was withheld.

You probably don’t make enough, or maybe an error was made on their end.
