If your refund was for less than shown on your return, the IRS will send you a letter explaining the reason for the change. That may take a couple of weeks.
Normally if the IRS sends you a check when you requested direct deposit it’s because you fat-fingered the routing number or account number on your return.
Sorry, don’t know what a “communitive state” is. Maybe you mean community property? If you filed a joint return, it really does not matter all that much unless one of you was subject to an offset for unpaid income taxes, federal agency debts, unpaid child support, or unpaid student loans in default.

obviously some errors were made
and you should get a letter explaining the changes made by IRS to reduce your refund
