Am I expected to send in the W2 form I got in January to the IRS or do they have that information and I don’t have to mail in a W2?

You attach all indicated forms to your return. There is even a note on the side of the form of where to staple them.

manually filed returns REQUIRE a copy of the W-2, there is a place cleared printed where you are to attach it
the SSA receives the originals of your W-2’s, not IRS

Your W-2 usually has four duplicates on it – one that goes with the Federal forms, two that go to state or local agencies, and one for your records. Send the appropriate ones with your returns.

If you e-file your tax return, you don’t have to attach W-2.
If you mail in your paper tax return, you need to attach W-2.

Attach the W2’s you have to your tax return, in case IRS has a question on your return, they already have the w2’s.
