What’s going on with my tax refund?

Asked by: megan 1037 views YA Discussion

My husband was suppose to receive his refund on the 8th of Feb. The state taxes refund came in, but not the federal. The person who does our taxes said that the site they use to check the progress says “processing”. Why hasn’t the federal come in yet? Should I be worried or freaking out?

How others found here:

  • what is going on with the irs refunds

    @Mike- haha!

    To answer your question… If you’ve been out of the loop, the IRS is behind and most refunds that were filed early are behind schedule.

    Actually, according to what I’ve read on various sites as were in the same boat, the IRS implemented a new security software this year. The new software was supposed to assist in finding fraudulent returns. In theory returns would run through the system and the new software would kick out anything it deemed suspicious for further review. The problem though is that it sent an unexpectedly high amount of returns out for review. So they had to fine tune the system while trying to process the returns. Needless to say the glitch caused a back-up of returns that needed processing. They originally anticipated that refunds would be about a week late, but there was a second glitch putting refunds back even further.

    Knowing that I wouldn’t start to worry unless you receive something in the mail from the IRS or the ‘Where’s my refund?’ site tells you there’s an issue.
    Hope that helps.
