What is the longest time you have ever had to wait for your tax refund?

Asked by: mflewis 236 views YA Discussion

I always got mine in 10 days or less from acceptance. Been over a month this year and the irs won’t give me a time frame or any info. How long can they possibly withhold my refund?

How others found here:

  • longest time i had to wait for a refund
  • whats the longest time to wait for your tax refund with a delay

The IRS can take some time, especially if you paper filed and want a check mailed. The IRS is saying about three weeks, and possibly longer. So over a month is not unusual.

Have you checked the refund status site?

It’s possible you were randomly selected for manual processing. If the return actually enters review or audit status, you’ll receive a letter.

As to your original question, I had the IRS lose my return, then fight me for over a year. But when they finally did send the refund, they added significant interest, better then just about any other investment.
