What is the average NC State refund amount?

Asked by: Jesica Hogan 962 views YA Discussion

Just wondering because mine and it looks like several others got flagged, and they want to see my return as well as my federal return and my W-2’s. My refund amount was 2975.00 only because I had more taken out of my checks to make sure I didnt have to pay, guess I went over board. I have always had to pay. Well, I went it to make sure everything was correct and actually, I had someone else do my taxes and now they have to be amended, I am suppose to get over 3045. back. So just wondering if there is a flagging amount. Or if this has happened to anyone else.

There’s no meaningful average refund as everyone’s tax situation is unique. That said, state refunds tend to be relatively small compared to federal refunds and a state refund of over $ 3,000 from excess withholding in most cases would set off fraud filters left and right. That’s why they are asking to see your federal return and your W-2s before they issue a refund.

If you actually did have nearly $ 60 extra per week withheld they will give you your refund but you’re going to have to prove that first. They may even request confirmation from your employer as that’s an unusually large amount of excess tax to be withheld on a state return.

$ 3045 or $ 2975 for that matter sounds way more than you should be getting.

Federal that amount is likely as long as you have a kid or two.

Probably flagged because it is such a high amount for a state return.
