It is a Refund Anticipation Check, but they do direct deposit also. It takes about 7 – 14 days to get it, and it is basically a loan from a third party lending company like a payday loan place. They charge you interest for borrowing the money at at least 20% usually more.

They now have another option Emerald Prepaid Mastercard. You can load your RAC on the Emerald Card to avoid “check cashing fees” so says the H&R block website. And they tote some other “credit card” perks like cash back.

On the card at 1am means it will be available then to use.

They are up fronting your refund by adding it to available money on the Emerald card. For this they will charge you absorbitant interest (35% – 75%) for you to get your money now instead of 10 days or 2 wks or whatever the timing would be on your refund if you just took it direct deposit.
