We got a notice like that last April. It was finally released after 4 letters and a call to a congressman sometime in October. They never said why it was held or what they looked at. In this case the refund was tens of thousands and I suspect they were looking into Identity theft although it should have been obvious after a while that the correct parties were contacting them. In short, getting it resolved in 60 days is likely a pipe dream.

I got a letter in the mail similar to that on (2/16/13).They said they needed to verify all my info, wages, dependents, etc. and may need to verify employment…? Seriously? How dumb does that sound. When I check online it has always given me a simple “your return is being processed” message. I have always used the same people to file my returns and have never had a problem so whatever is going on is on the IRS end. And I’m betting it’ll be a looong time before myself or anyone having this problem will see their money.
