IRS is not accepting yet. Slayer is “accepting” your return but they are going to later file your return on the 30th of Jan. How much did they cost? Did you have a refund?

If you received an email saying that your “Federal Electronic Return Accepted” and have a submission ID#, then the IRS has accepted your return. The actual processing to generate a refund will begin after January 30th and you should be able to check the “Where’s My Refund” on irs.gov.

The IRS typically asks EROs like Taxslayer, Block, TurboTax, etc. to submit a small sample set of actual returns for testing on live data a week or so before tax season opens.

Last year a few of those folks did get early refunds but a lot of them wound up with significant delays because of new anti-fraud protocols. This year those test runs will NOT be released early and any that get “hung up” in the system will be rolled back out and resubmitted once the fraud protocols are adjusted. At the end of the test runs all of them will be pulled back out, erased from the system, and then will be resubmitted for live processing on Jan 30.

You’re getting the notification as part of the test though I suspect that the IRS will eventually shut those down to avoid confusion. You may or may not get another notification once it’s resubmitted for live processing.

sfbs ….. you are correct! I used Turbo Tax last week to do our taxes … I received an email today stating …. Your Federal Return Has Been Accepted! What this means:
Congratulations! TurboTax was able to have your return accepted early by the IRS. You’re finished with your taxes. Even though you’ve been accepted early, please note that the IRS does not begin processing refunds until January 30.
