Asked by: livingeditor 2156 views YA Discussion

Ok, so i filed on the 1st and thinking back i think i did it wrong well i think i put in the wrong direct deposit # because when i tried to log into my account online the # was different then number i used, the one i used was the number on my direct deposit form which started with different numbers but had the same ending all in all. Do you think i have to call irs to fix the mishap?

I would call them. I mean if it’s the same bank just a diff. account then it will probabaly sort itself out but if I were in your shoes, I’d call and make sure it’s all correct.

Call them. You might have to file an amended return.

Once your return is sent to the IRS, direct deposit information CAN’T be changed. WHEN your bank rejects the deposit, the IRS will send a paper check. Because the IRS does not allow direct deposit to accounts not in the name of the taxpayer, and check digits built into account numbers make it likely an error will result in an INVALID account number, it is EXTREMELY unlikely the money will end up in someone else’s account.

if your direct deposit is sent to the account you indicated, and it is wrong, the money will be returned to IRS and they will issue you a check and send to the address on your tax return
a call will have no effect
