Tax Refund: 4883c letter?

Asked by: bellmont 2070 views YA Discussion

My taxes were accepted 1/25 and since then it was stuck in pending. I called the 1-800-829-0582 ext 362 number after 23 days of waiting and today finally got through. I found out my refund was on hold and when I receive my 4883c letter (Identity Theft/Identity Verification Letter) I would call that number and give them the information they asked for.
I didn’t wait for the letter, I found out the number that comes on that letter: 1-800-830-5084 ext. 123 and told them I wanted to verify now to get it over with. I had my 2011 tax return in front of me and the guy just asked me basic questions.
He then released my funds and said it would take 4 – 6 weeks.

For those of you who went through the same thing, does it really take 4 – 6 weeks?
I from a few people it was more like 2 weeks.

How others found here:

  • 800-830-5084
  • form 4883c irs

One can only speculate. It would appear that the IRS has improved their IP (identity protection) program as these used to take months to resolve even if you were the first to file. If it’s down to a projected 4 to 6 weeks, I’d call that a major victory.

I did the same thing Tuesday on Feb 19th and I was told the Same information…Then i called back and a different person said it can be 2-4 weeks They just have to give you that time frame…& thats its possible that i can get a Refund Date by the middle of next week but to just keep checking.
