Scam letter? Taxes? Please help!?

Asked by: megan 1252 views YA Discussion

In 1994 I got my DBA because it was required for a company that I was working in, they then told me that when I stopped working with them they would cancel it, I stopped working with them in 1997, and I just received a letter from Linebarger Goggan Blair and Sampson, LLP charging me property taxes for 2001 and I have no idea why. The letter didn’t have my name correctly written, neither was the address accurate. Is this a scam? How can I find out if I really owe taxes to the city or if I have to pay taxes to the DBA even though I am no longer using it?

Why not ask the folks you sent you the letter?

AND you should just take this letter to the local taxing authority for this property and show it to them and ask them to PLEASE explain what is really going on since you do have this letter in your hand that says that you do owe some amount of $ $ $ that is being charged for property taxes or contact the sender of this letter from this LLP for a good explanation so that you can understand what is really going on with this matter.
Hope that you find the above enclosed information useful. 05/22/2011

a DBA is not a license, it is nothing other than you have advertised in your local paper that you are operating a business, your city probably will not issue you a business license without this advertising, and it has to be renewed at least every 5 yrs by the advertisement
ie you have declared ‘doing business as”
and yes, I was informed on the 12th that this company is a valid company.
you probably need to contact them and find out what this is all about
