Ohio Income Tax Rates for Minors?

Asked by: 30 views Tax Discussion

I live in Ohio and I’m working for a farm here for a little under 3 weeks. I’m 16 years old and I’m going to make under $ 1,300 from this job. I’ve had people tell me taxes range anywhere from 33% all the way down to 5%. Between city, state, and federal income tax, what percentage of taxes will I be paying?

The employer should be withholding social security and medicare taxes. If your total income for 2011 is only the $ 1,300.00 I doubt seriously that you even have a filing requirement for the state of Ohio. You would not have a filing requirement for IRS. If any federal or state income tax was withheld you would have to file to get it back.

assuming you are being paid cash, yes, you need to file a Sch C and SE on this income as an independent contractor(also assuming you are not actually doing the farming)
the self employment tax is appr. 13.3% of your Sch C ‘net’ amount
there would be no Federal income tax and likely no Ohio
