Need a copy of my tax returns?

Asked by: 42 views Tax Discussion

So I already filed my tax returns and mailed them to wherever they needed to go, but now I need a copy of my filed tax returns for returning to school next year. The problem is that I shredded and threw away my W2 form and anything else I used to fill out that form not knowing I would need it again… where could I get another copy of the W2 form?

Ask your employer for another copy if you need your W-2.

If you need the actual return, and you probably do, request a transcript from the IRS..

If you didn’t keep a photocopy of your tax return, you should NOT try to reinvent it from scratch.

Call 1-800-829-1040 and request a transcript. It will show what you actually filed. FAFSA will be find with that.

you can request a duplicate of your W-2 from your employer
if you want a copy of your return you can get one from IRS for $ 57
and it is not wise to destroy any income tax related papers for no less than 4 yrs

You can obtain a free transcript on the IRS.gov Website (www.irs.gov) by clicking Order a Transcript under the Online Services option, or by calling 800-908-9946 and following the prompts in the recorded message, or by completing(Form 4506-T) and mailing a request for a transcript to the address listed in the instructions.

The transcript is accepted at all schools and banks as proof of income and proof of filing.

    Good luck!
