    no the baby must have been born on 12/31/12 or prior

    You’re filing taxes from the year 2012, so you would have to report anything that happened in 2012, not 2013. Basically, your baby would have to be born between 1/1/12 -12/31/12 to be claimed as a dependent on a 2012 tax return.

    hairy1 is correct. The taxes you are filing now are for the 2012 tax year. You’d have had to have your baby by 12/31/12. You file your 2013 taxes in 2014, which is when you’d begin claiming your baby.

    NO………..since your baby was born Jan. 8, 2013 you can NOT claim the child until 2014 when you file for your 2013 tax returns.
