Mailed my tax return on February 8, 2013, IRS claims they still havent received it?

Asked by: covici 127 views YA Discussion

Its supposed to take 4 weeks from when the receive it to get a refund. Its been 5 weeks from when I mailed it and they still say that they havent received it?! Id understand if its taking longer to process because I have a tax credit on windows and my husband is a Pastor (which gets tricky with tax situations), but they havent even received it?!?! Im not sure what to do. Can I efile after Ive already mailed it?

i dont think its a good idea to efile if you already sent it end.

you should be able to go to your state website and track your taxes.

I efile my own taxes and got it back in like 7 days!

Yes you can efile…If they end up getting it in the mail later it will be rejected as a duplicate. Did you check the “Where’s my Refund” site on http://www.irs.gov to make sure they don’t have it?

I feel like the IRS is claiming all sorts of nonsensical things this year. Last year this happened with my PA taxes; while I received my federal taxes extremely quickly, I didn’t get my PA refund until June because they claimed they never received it. I ended up going back to my tax preparer (H & R Block) at the end of May and had them reprint everything and I sent it out again, with a large post it note that stated “SECOND ATTEMPT – PREVIOUSLY MAILED IN FEBRUARY” or something to that extent and ended up getting it about 4 weeks later. Ask your tax preparer if they can do this for you and if they think it’s a good idea. My PA refund was small and it was just the state that had to deal with it so I’m not sure how the IRS would react to your forms being resent. At any rate, I found the number 1-877-777-4778 to appeal to a tax advocate but you have to prove hardship to them.

I mailed my return on 2/1 and the IRS didn’t show any info about receiving it until 3/6. Then it was showing processing and on 3/8 it showed my check would be mailed on 3./14. I called the IRS on 3/5 because I was concerned it got lost in the mail and was told it could take 4-8 weeks for a mailed claim to show in their system and a check to be sent. You should see something in a few days.
