Is form 8863 Really delayed now?

Asked by: mgates 3847 views YA Discussion

Because according to the form delays on the IRS website it is not included. And if they are rejecting all returns that include it, does that mean the people that were already accepted with that form are going to be delayed? Even if the form is supposedly updated through Turbo tax.

How others found here:

  • form 8863 delay
  • irs form 8863
  • 8863 delay

IRS Delays Processing of Form 8863
    1/27/2013

The IRS announced on an industry call with software vendors participating in the Controlled Launch this morning that they would start rejecting any e-file that contains Form 8863 (Education Credits) effective immediately.

What does this mean for returns that you have already sent to the EFC, that are waiting to be sent to the IRS on January 30th?

Any return that you have sent to the EFC that contains Form 8863 will be rejected by the IRS with either Reject F1040-419 or F1040A-419 Form 8863 is not being accepted by Modernized e-File (MeF) at this time .

Will the EFC reject any e-file that contains Form 8863 to the ERO instead of sending it to the IRS?

No, we do not crack open the e-files at the EFC, we simply batch them and send them to the IRS. Any efiles already at the EFC will be transmitted to the IRS.

Will you release something that prevents me from creating an efile for a return with Form 8863?

Yes, we will be releasing a forms update to the EFINFO later today or first thing in the morning. This will prevent you from creating an e-file if the return contains Form 8863

When will we be able to electronically file returns with Form 8863?

The IRS is working diligently to get the programming in place to process these returns. They will be issuing a Quick Alert regarding this situation, but cannot commit to a resolution date at this time.,

Since learning of this, I’ve searched endlessly and only this one site is claiming that this form is delayed. TT and HR Block reps have said that don’t know of any delay. Whether they are telling the truth or not, or even if they know at all, I don’t know. I would like to know, because I have mine all filled and ready to efile but didn’t want to quite yet just because of weird delays that seem to happen every year with the IRS. Hope there is some solid information later on in the day about this.

That post came from a blogger, who was trolling and it went viral. The IRS nor any tax preparer (the people who the conference were allegedly with) have any idea of form 8863 being rejected or delayed. That info above originated on taxwise.blogspot.com NOT the IRS.gov official site.

Taxwise also were the ones to issue a refund cycle chart, yet the IRS said there would be no refund chart and all created cycle charts were and are phony.

    Federal Return Error 1
5001 – Due to late passage of tax legislation, the IRS will delay accepting the following tax forms until February or March. Check back at that time. When you can file your return, this message will be removed.

The IRS will not process paper tax returns before the anticipated opening date. There is no advantage to filing on paper before the opening date, and taxpayers will receive their tax refunds much faster by using e-file with direct deposit.

this is the message from irs and efile i obtained but call irs and tey didnt aknowledge anything of this manner ???

Here’s from the actual irs.gov website. There’s several forms not being accepted by efile.

This is what I just got off of the IRS page about form 8863. I am very concerned now, because I filed mine last week. Anyone know if the IRS accepted returns with form 8863 last week?

I don’t think the Form 8863 is the problem, it is in the irs program they found issues while testing the program?

Could be something occurred last year that made some peoples taxes late; this system should have bee tested before tax season and not during the process.

If Form 8863 was filed last week, did the irs accept it then? Or did the irs just start not accepting it yesterday?

Yes there is a delay if you filed form 8863 for school; I thought they were cracking down on people who are claiming children that are not theirs and not people who are going to school and working. Last year I did not have to wait this long. My taxes have been in the process stage since 1/30/2013 and it is 2/21/2013

Yes 2/14/2013 to be exact; they stated it will take less than 21 days to recieve; that irs message it crazy, there should be a estimated date on when these checks will be available.
