This is just a random generic error code. I called the IRS because I had the same thing and thats what she said. Also there have been people getting their refund without WMR updating at all.

The IRS has been having issues with the WMR site. A lot of us who were in the “by Feb 14″ club had ours change to the infamous 9001 error message. The consensus was that our returns were still processing as normal but the system had a bug in it. My WMR status just changed today as well to direct deposit on Feb. 15. If you just received the 9001 code today, in my opinion it should resolve itself by next Sunday and be deposited the same week.

    Filed: 1/31/12
    9001 error: 02/07/12
DD scheduled for Feb 15: 02/12/12

I could have written this. I efiled 2/2, they accepted 2/2. I received this 9001 error thing on 2/8 and as of today, it’s still there. H&R Block said that it should have been deposited today, so I called them and asked why it wasn’t and they said it’s delayed 5-10 more days. The IRS, however, has never updated WMR with a DD date or anything other than the 9001 error. So, apparently, H&R Block’s system is more competent than the IRS’.

To make matters worse, I’ve done a lot of reading and have read of some awful outcomes from people that got this error, along with numerous DDs rescheduled many times.

I don’t know what’s going on with the IRS, but you’d think that this year especially would be a wake up call to get it together. It’s a huge body of people that have absolutely no clue about anything and you get a different answer each time you call. I guess the government doesn’t have to be professional or even informed these days.
