IRS Prosecution……….?

Asked by: minchk 510 views YA Discussion

What are the chances of getting prosecuted and going to jail for those who file fraudulent tax returns? Ive read on people who get a fraudulent refund and amend afterwards and don’t end up paying until they get a tax lien on there credit report, and I also reviewed the IRS Criminals investigation page and the people that are most convicted are those who get thousands of dollars of fraudulent money. I know it’s a weird question to ask but it’s got me thinking..I would appreciate some responses please be nice I don’t need rude comments thanks

For a normal reason, it is relatively low. However, for a famous person (Will Smith, Leona Helmsley, Al Capone, etc.), the chances are much higher.

It is very hard to prove criminal tax fraud so marginal cases never get off the ground and there has to be enough provable tax due the guarantee that the person will go to prison and not just get probation. Small cases just get his with a heavy dose of penalties.
