IRS IDverify letters?

Asked by: ralvarez 27678 views YA Discussion

Got a letter from the IRS that my refund is being held. Something to do about identity verify. They provided a website but that doesn’t work, after entering the information requested on the site it says I must call their 800#, they cannot resolve this online. Calling their 800# is a bigger problem!, they don’t pickup, I waited over 2 hours, using up minutes on my cell phone. Tried calling them later in the evening, and got a message that they are not taking anymore calls today!. This action by the IRS is not only unfair, unjust, it’s CRIMINAL!. I don’t have the time to sit around for 2hours or more. It’s an abolute disgrace, and I only have 30 days from the date of the letter to respond?, what happens after 30 days if I cannot reach the IRS?. If I cannot get through to them, I will place the matter into the hands of my attorney who specializes in the tax laws and dealings with the IRS.

What was your question? I know a few people who have gotten that letter and were able to get through.

Because of the massive amount of identity theft, they had to put practices in place to verify the correct person has sent in the return, particularly if there was something on the return that sent up a red flag.

I don’t know about you, but considering the fiscal problems we are having, I’m glad that they exercising due diligence in cracking down on the fraud. We don’t need billions of dollars in tax payer money going to people who don’t deserve it.

Just call earlier in the morning on a land line.

They’re not reviewing it, they’re letting it sit collecting dust because somewhere your info somewhere in a federal government office has a typo, & they won’t tell you about voluntarily. You have to get in touch w/ a human to find out what’s going on. It’s BS but it’s the truth.

I’ve been waiting for my 2012 refund since February & still can’t get it!!!!! I’ve filed the same way for at least 10 years. So now I have to have the tax advocate office try & help me! This has been such a big hassle that I can’t even begin to explain all the phone calls & misery the IRS has put me through!

I got the letter last February, went to the website, answered the questions, & was told it didn’t process. Called the 800 # & got after HOURS OF BEING ON HOLD THE 1ST TIME, 2ND TIME & 3RD TIME. Got me NOWHERE!!!!!!!!!!! Out of frustration & absolutely no clue as to what to do next I started calling other phone #s on the IRS website, probably the completely wrong thing to do in this situation, but I’ve never been through it. They all pretty much have the same recording, so I answered they’re questions as best I could. Finally I got hold of a human after HOURS OF BEING ON HOLD!!!!!!!!! He told me to go to the website & answer the questions, I did & have been trying ever since. DOESN’T WORK!!!!!!! Another person told me my birth date day at ssc office was wrong, went down there had that fixed (great people). Trying again today & saw this possible glimmer of hope.
