This is killing me i got home from work tonight(sat) and found a slip that i have a certified letter for me from the IRS. I can’t get it until mon. Why would i get one in Aug? I have never received a previous letter from them, nor do i owe that any money or ever have. I received my full return probably around the end of Feb. with no problems. Any else ever have this where they never contacted you previously before receiving a letter certified?

You received your full return an envelope full of paper copies of your income tax RETURN that you may have needed to correct SIGN and send back to the correct IRS address.
Or do you mean that you received your anticipated REFUND $ $ $ $ amount around the end of February 2011 after you had filled out all of the correct copies and schedules of your original 1040 income tax RETURN and signed the copy of the income tax RETURN to be sent to the IRS?
And NOW just calm down and do not PANIC YET until you do get this certified letter into your hands and read and under stand what it is really about and then you will know what is really going on at this time in your life.
It might just be some type of survey letter that are asking you to fill out and return to the IRS for some reason that only the IRS would know what it could be about at this time in your life.
Hope that you find the above enclosed information useful. 08/14/2011

The IRS wants to make sure you receive whatever it is you are getting; so that you can respond to whatever it is. If you have no previous communications or problems or anything it can even be a questionnaire or survey. Don’t come unglued over it as the world will keep on turning.

You don’t receive a return, you FILE a return. A tax return is the forms and schedules that you send to the IRS. If you get money back, that’s called a REFUND.

The IRS sends notices of tax due or audit notices via certified mail. You won’t know what it’s all about until you get it and open it. They may have found an error on your return or you may have been selected for an audit for one of hundreds of possible reasons. No way to guess what it might be without seeing a copy of your return as filed.

IRS doesn’t send certified mail as its first contact. You have ignored something in the past.

it could be any number of reasons, and you will only know when you go in to pick it up, and yes, there are many, many certified letters mailed
