Injured Spouse form question?

Asked by: dtba 596 views YA Discussion

How long does it take IRS to process an injured spouse form? I did my taxes electronically on Feb 6 and mailed the form off Feb 9.
I was told once it could take up to 12 weeks but some sites are saying 8 weeks. I knew it took awhile and have learned when they say it can take up to a certain time…they mean it. They never send stuff early!

How others found here:

  • irs timeframe injured spouse

The instructions to the 8379 spell it out.

11 weeks total if you filed them *together.* 3 week for the tax form and then 8 week for the 8379.

Since you mailed the form in, there may be an additional delay while the 8379 catches up. Figure 14 weeks total.

Just be patient and there are many taxpayers in the same situation.
The time given is an average.
