If I receive a email for my taxes ” Federal Electronic Return Accepted” are they truly approved?

Asked by: jhuntres 279 views YA Discussion

I filed on the 8th of January and accepted on January 23rd.

First email said it was received by the IRS

Second email i receive said it was accepted.

Does this mean it was approved? Thanks. This is my first year and e-filing by myself!

Thanks for the help!

Accepted means it passed some basic checks like the name matches the ss# and no ss# claimed on your return has already been claimed. Approved is another step.

Approved does not mean processed. I was approved also. It means we will be in the 1st batch of people to receive our refund. IRS is doing early approval this year but is not processing until the 30th. Since you e-filed a computer is going to process your return. You should get your return before Valentines day but since the IRS has a mess on there hands this year (due to late passing if tax laws) I wouldn’t plan on receiving your return until Feb 20th. On Jan 30th you can go to the IRS website and receive a more accurate date for refund.
