I had to file a paper Tax return due to identity theft is it going to take forever to receive my refund?

This is awful i tried to efile my Taxes and wad rejected due to someone else used my info and my kids info to get a Tax Refund. Luckily the person who did it hasnt received any money. But the thing is now i have to wait longer to get my Tax Refund due to me having to file a paper return. The Irs has to do there investagating. I went too my local Irs Office and had to show proof of identity for myself and my kids. My thing is has anyone experienced this before and how long after filing your paper return did you recieve your Tax return. Help please.

    Unfortunately, you may be waiting a long time. Once the IRS is satisfied that it was id theft, they will process your 2011 return. For 2012 and later, they will mail you a PIN to put on your future efiles so that only your return will go through.

    U will still receive your refund in about 6-8 weeks thin ashort time after that their gonna snd out an audit latter to decide who has the rights.

    Unfortunately it will be a long process. Make sure you stay on them. I had to file my 2011 return using a PIN number and was told it should avoid delays, now 20 days later I’m being told it may be another 6-8 weeks because it has to be reviewed manually. This defeats the purpose of the PIN in my opinion because that’s the same thing I was told last year when I filed without the PIN. Make sure to find out when they received your return and began processing it. Call the identity theft hotline 800-908-4490 and find out what documents you need to provide (I had to send an ID Theft Affidavit and other documents), don’t wait for them to send you correspondence requesting it. If you don’t get resolution within the time frame you’re given call the Taxpayer Advocate Service 1-877-777-4778. The first time I had a problem it took almost a year to get my refund and got it then only because I contacted the Taxpayer Advocate Service. I filed on 2/12 and on 2/21 my return went into an “unpostable” status meaning it has to be reviewed manually. So now it’ll be 6-8 weeks from the 21st before I get my refund. I’m giving them a maximum of 6 weeks then I’m calling the Taxpayer Advocate Service. They will resolve any issue. Good luck.

      Thank you so much for posting your info, i had the same similar problem also. Im calling them right now. This was my first year filing my taxes and im going through alot im only 21, they gave me the run around , I called the IRS n stayed on hold for “4:34″ min to be exact… So with that being said im pretty upset in loosing patients. I dnt know what else to do they previously told me that its out of my hands, i sent in my forms for idenity theift, called other numbers, still dnt have my MONEY!!… Its too long of a process, i wouldnt wish this on anyone…

    My husband and I filed efile on 1/30/2012 and it kicked out for his being a duplicate. Someone used his B-day and SS and filed single, they were to receive a DD of 9k on the 8th of Feb…well they didn’t get that… but the woman at the IRS stated all I had to do is mail in our tax return with the Idenity theft form along with a copy of my husband DL and SS card and it would not take long with that info…. well it is now March the 14th and they have had it since 2/6/2012, when I called the man stated I was calling too early and it had not even been assigned to a worker and it would be a lengthy process so that’s all he could tell me and I would get a letter when someone starts working on it. From my understanding they have a new system… so why wouldn’t they be able to see my husband and I have filed joint forever… and get the ball moving…

    I filed my taxes e-file on 1-25-2012 and was tod my ss# was used so I was told by IRS to paper mail in with Identity theft paper, copy of ID and SS#, mailed on 2-01-2012, Its 3-20-2012 contacted IRS and they tell me that they still dont have any of my info in the system yet and to call them every month and if nothing is done by 12th week I will have to resend my tax forms.

    I file efile January 25 with IRS I was kicked out, Instant Tax Service Filed sometime around Jan 16th and 20th. I filed an Id Theft Affidaivit in Feburary they entered my paper tax March the 5th and I am still waiting even after they know where the money Is and who committed the crime? It is now April 18th three days after tax season and I am still waiting. This is unbelieviable, unacceptable, and something should have been done to protect the people more after $5.8 billion dollars later? Please If I went into the bank with a gun and stole $5.8 billion I would not make it out alive? Pencil pushing white collar theives are no different then street theives. Your just a thug with a breif case, a sharp pen, and a suit! Theft is theft they all need to go to jail. Where did all that money go and who benifited? Iam tired of large companies ripping people off with a smile on their face. Someone is letting them get away with it! P.S. STOP THE GAS HIKE!

    i think i’m in the same boat… i filed with e-file and was rejected called turbo-tax they told me to paper file…waited for my refund but nothing so i called irs they said i was under review and said i would receive a notice in the mail to wait i waited an nothing so i called again they said i had a duplicate, to give it some more time ??? dont know what to do now but wait thanks for the advice with tax payer advocate i think i might call them see what they can do about this

    I filed in late February and got kicked out because someone had used my SS and filed in place of me already. So I filled out all the identity theft papers, turned in the id stuff mailed it in, forgot to sign somewhere and had to turn it in again. They got everything in the beginning of April. I’m suppose to get a huge refund. First they said to wait 100 days. On the 100th day they said “oops” you have to wait 180 days. Waited another 80 days, called in again (it’s october now) they said, “oops” you should wait 200 days. That was after the second call. In the first call, the lady screamed she didn’t know what to do and hung up on me. The second guy was the one who said wait longer and wait for some letter. He said my case is in some department that he couldn’t contact. I’ve sinced changed all my government finacial dealings. Don’t give them any more of your money than you have to. They’re keeping my refund, investing it and not giving it back to me and saying it’s back logged. I may try the tax advocate idea. I’ve grown up following all the rules and giving the government all my money and they can’t even give me my lousy refund without lying and being corrupt.

    I efiled on 2/9/12 and was rejected due to someone efiled on 2/3 using my name and ss number. I had to mail in my return on 2/15 aswell as fill out and mail in an affidavit. They started my paper work on 5/7, it is now 10/16. Im in financial hardship so i called the Taxpayer Advocate Service they accepted my app and started there process on 9/10. I was so happy when she told me it would be a 3 day turn around period. That was over 5 weeks ago. Still nothing! This is unbelievably upsetting. This is the kicker… I called the state to see where my check was from them? They asked me to confirm my name and address and i did. She told me it was aleady mailed out to me and told me where it was mailed. So i said ” that address you just gave me belongs to whomever stole my identity!” The state did not know until that moment that they messed up.

    I did my taxes Jan 24, 2012 by February 4, 2012 no return I called and found put I was a victim of identity theft. I mailed in return, license and social card all certified. The green card came back by the 15th. I went on IRS.gov clicked where’s my refund and said I should get March 12,2012 that day came but refund went to person who stole my information. I called the tax advocate and by June I had my refund plus interest.

    I filed my taxes february 5 2013 and luckily I kept checking the irs web for a status date or it wouldn’t have led me to contact the preparer. For them to tell me I was rejected because had already filed which I knew I hadn’t. Today is the tenth when I called the irs I was in tears because I’m not counting on tgis moNey to waste away I Have bills my light will be cut off by friday and I have small children my tag is due to be updated because my birthday is thursday and if I get stopped I will have another bill. She gave me the tax advocate number an they said they should called in three days. I pray I can get these bills pay friday or I’m gonna suffer even more someone file last year with my info and I didn’t even file taxes last year I had none to file and this year they filed for about 4000 doLlars ugh lord help me.
