Asked by: megan 3207 views YA Discussion

How much does a person obtain per year after taxes in South Florida (Ft. Lauderdale area) if they are married and their salary is $ 60,000 per year?

All that they will claim on their W-2 is married (no kids, insurance or extras taken out of their own will).

    I have tried the paycheck calculator, put on Married status, annual payroll period, zero allowance,
    I have these results:

    Annual Gross Pay $ 60,000.00
    Federal Withholding $ 6,965.00
    Social Security $ 1,965.60
    Medicare $ 870.00
    Florida $ 0.00
    Net Pay $ 50,199.40

    The Federal Withholding and Medicare are right, only the Social Security is not 4.2% :

    $ 60,000 * 4.2% = $ 2,520 not $ 1,965 as above.

    So the net pay would be :

    $ 60,000 – ( $ 6,965 + $ 2,520 + $ 870 ) = $ 49,645

    Am I missing something as using this paycheck calculator? Could anyone confirm this?

    your non taxable income for 2011 will probably be $ 19300 which leaves $ 40700 as taxable, there would be 5.65% withheld for FICA, possibly another 1% or more if your state has a mandated tax
    your income tax for federal will probably be at least 15%
    there is no state income tax in Fla
