Help! IRS E-File Error efile:WagesNotShownSchedule[1]?

Asked by: flash 3725 views YA Discussion

I continue trying to file my taxes through the free file system, but it comes back as rejected. I can not find any help online stating what the error means and what is causing it.

The error is:

Field/Xpath: /efile:Return[1]/efile:ReturnData[1]/efile:WagesNotShownSchedule[1]/efile:WagesNotShownSch[1]/efile:WagesLit[1]
Field/Xpath: /efile:Return[1]/efile:ReturnData[1]/

I am using the 1040EZ form.

How others found here:

  • Field/Xpath: /efile:Return[1]/efile:ReturnData[1]/efile:WagesNotShownSchedule[1]/efile:WagesNotShownSch[1]/efile:WagesNotShownAmt[1]
  • field/xpath: /efile:return[1]/efile:returndata[1]/efile:wagesnotshownschedule[1]/efile:wagesnotshownsch[1]/efile:wageslit[1]
  • WagesNotShownAmt

This kind of message generally means you indicated you had wages, but didn’t enter the full W-2 (if not on a W-2, it needs a code of HSH if household help or SCH if scholarship money.)

STUPID software design: even though you added the W-2 forms when you filled the 1040(EZ), in the last step (which is e-file) you need to click on the add W-2 button again (and select the ones(s) you added and filled earlier from a drop down list that will pop up).
