donation to salvation army for tax deductions?

Asked by: emeka22uche 516 views YA Discussion

I made a donation to salvation army. My question is, when I file my documents on January 2013
should I include the receipt from salvation army?

Thanks.

You should include the amount shown on the receipt. Do not include the actual piece of paper. You must keep it, so that you can provide it later if requested.

the amount of your donation, that you determine unless it was a specific amount of money will only be claimed on Sch A
and you use that only if you can itemize greater than your standard deduction

IF you already itemize then you can use it.
