do you need to show social security card to file taxes?

At the place where I want to file taxes, I am being asked to bring the ss card in order for them to file my taxes. Is it common and normal to ask to bring the ss card?? Also Ive lost mines sin 2009, how can I get it replaced??

    Yes, you need it to prove who you are.

    You get a replacement by contacting the SSA.

    It’s common. They might accept a copy of last year’s return.

    At my desk, for the taxpayer themselves, I’ll accept a drivers license as proof of ID, since you have to show your social security card to get a driver’s license. But for all of the dependents, I absolutely have to have their social security cards and make copies of them unless those SSN’s automatically populate from last year’s return for a returning customer.
