Contact # for IRS to speak to someone?

Asked by: livingeditor 3992 views YA Discussion

I filed taxes 2/4/12 and today is day 20 and still no refund. WmR doesn’t have a date only says it’s being processed. Does anyone know the # I can call to speak to someone?

How others found here:

  • Talk to Live IRS Operator
  • IRS Speak to a Person
  • how to contact the irs and speak to a person

even if you can finally talk to a live person you will not get any better answer than is on the web site
but the number is 1 800 829 1040, and you might get the message due to the huge volume to call another time,
during tax season they have extended hours for the phone you might try later at nite

    1) Call 1-800-829-1040
    2) Sit on hold for a very long time.
    3) The representative will tell you that your return is being processed and no further information is available.

There is no magic switch that they can throw to make it go any faster.

While it is unlikely that the IRS will have any different information other than what is on WMR, some people here have reported that a call to the IRS DID in fact give them updated information when WMR did not. If you have time to sit around for a while on hold it can’t hurt to call, but don’t hold your breath.

I’m at day 21 now (accepted on the 3rd) and am on hold hoping for an answer, but to be honest I don’t expect them to be able to do anything.

Call 1-800-829-1040. Press 0 or * several times and it will put you through to an operator who will ask you where to redirect your call. Ask them NOT to send you to the WMR automated phone line but to an operator instead.
