Can You Trust Turbo Tax Programs?

Asked by: fgr8out 588 views YA Discussion

I am a teacher who makes about $ 32,000 plus a few thousand more a year from a summer job.

My tax return wasnt extremely complicated, but Im still nervous.

My Turbo Tax program performed a search for errors and said that I am “low risk” for an audit, and it doesnt see any errors or red flags.

If I did make a mistake, can I plead ignorance, and say that I trusted my Turbo Tax’s “scan of my return?” Does Turbo Tax get it right?

Thanks!

How others found here:

  • turbo tax say high audit rate?
  • very low risk turbo tax

Yes. This is my 8th year using TurboTax Premier.

All tax preparation software should come up with identical results.

You can try pleading ignorance, but the IRS won’t buy it. TurboTax only guarantees the calculations based on answers you provided during the interview process. You need to understand the filing requirements. Their software is great at explaining almost all situations and is very useful for tracking depreciation and charities.

I’ve been using TurboTax for more than 10 years, never had an issue…

I have trusted it for years and years.
Never a mistake. Unless it was mine, such as forgetting about interest of an acct.
    Give it a try.
That way you are not trapped into spending a lifetime of paying to have someone “less smart” than you do your taxes.
Taxes are super easy – just have an open mind.

I’ve used Turbo tax the last 5 or so years and it’s never given me problems. As far as pleading ignorance you’ll have to check Turbo taxes program for its guarantees. Unless Turbo tax stands by its results by guaranteeing you reimbursement if they mess up then it will fall to you. Like I said, I’ve used it without issue and mine were complicated. If you’ve entered everything correctly then you’re probably ok.

If there is a MATH mistake, it is Turbo Tax’s fault. If it is an INPUT mistake it is ALWAYS your fault…even with a live person preparing your taxes.
Simple ignorance is NEVER a valid defense.

If YOU made a mistake, you can’t blame it on them. Trubo Tax and any other way to do your taxes is only as accurate as the info YOU provide.

You can trust TT. However, you must be sure to input the correct information. GIGO.

On many tax returns, failure to check a single box somewhere on the tax input can mean an error of $ 2500. Just be careful and everything will be fine. Measure twice, cut once.

TT is good if you enter the info correctly. Their scan can’t find things entered wrong.
