Can my boyfriend claim me on his taxes?

Asked by: megan 751 views YA Discussion

He just bought a house in april 2011, and i moved in with him. I go to school full time and do not work and havent worked all year. He payes for all my credit cards and food etc. So he is wanting to claim me, and we werent sure if he could if we arent married.

How others found here:

  • can my boyfriend claim me on his taxes
  • boyfriend supported me can he claim me on his taxes?
  • my boyfriend claimed me as a dependent on his taxes does that mean we are common married

He could claim you only if you met ALL of the following requirements: Lived in his household for the ENTIRE YEAR (all 365 days), earned less than $ 3650, are a US citizen, he paid more than half your support, you cannot be claimed as a dependent by anyone else, and your living together does not violate local law.

You don’t qualify based on the first requirement. Maybe next year.

YES< if he marries you before end of year
NOPE, otherwise as you didn’t live with him for the entire year; aren’t related, even though you had no income and he is supporting you

Not for 2011. One of the many rules for claiming an unrelated person is that they must live with you ALL year.
