Can I claim unpaid wages due to company going chapter 7 on my income taxes?

Asked by: ralvarez 323 views YA Discussion

Company went chapter 7 last year. They owe me 8 weeks of pay and now that chapter 7 is official I won’t see a penny from them. Can I claim these unpaid weeks on income taxes?

No. You cannot claim wages you did not get.

    No.

Loss of income is never a deduction as you were never taxed on it in the first place.

Ultimately, the only thing that you lost was your time and your time as no value for tax purposes.

If you can deduct a loss from investments ie investment income you did not get then you should be able to deduct a loss from unpaid wages you did not get .

I don’t understand claiming wages you never received and likely not going to get
and no, if you didn’t receive them they are not something to claim
