4 week tax return processing time!!! Wth?

Asked by: jmlcpl 1634 views YA Discussion

I filed my return on 2/4, when it was accepted, with a proposed date of direct deposit of 2/15. I checked Where’s My Refund after the 72-hour window and it said Code 9001, call the number below. I called and the IRS rep said that the code was generated incorrectly, that the Where’s My Refund site has been experiencing technical difficulties. Ok. Now the kicker- she said that I should check back around March 5th to see if it’s been processed yet. Umm, a month to process it? Yes. Who knows when I’ll get my refund. This is crazy.
Oh and for SmartA$ $ and others, I’m lucky enough to not need this money, my money thank you- but many are experiencing this and do need their refunds. And I wouldn’t care as much if I wouldn’t have paid $ 160 through Turbo Tax to file.

    Life is rough.

I remember the days when you mailed all your forms in a giant envelope and starting checking your mailbox in about 6 weeks hoping you were one of the lucky few who got their refund that fast, and you really didn’t panic until about 12 weeks later because you knew that 8-12 weeks was normal.

It must be rough if you’re used to a refund in 2 weeks and then one year it takes 4 weeks.

EDIT: Turbo Tax has no control over how fast the IRS processes your return and neither does any other tax preparer or tax software. The delay has affected people from ALL filing methods.

Turbo Tax knows they can’t expedite your refund and they don’t charge a fee for faster processing. They might charge a fee for filing electronically and they remind you that e-file is the fastest way, but e-file through turbo tax isn’t any faster than do it yourself e-file on the IRS website.
